About the Artist

Hi, I’m Kelli Freshman — a Salt Lake City–based photographer with a deep love for capturing real, human moments. My work is rooted in curiosity — the kind that makes you look twice at a stranger and wonder who they are, what they’ve seen, and what makes them light up.

After years of photographing families, dogs, and communities across Utah, I began to notice how easy it is to pass by people without really seeing them. That’s what inspired Sonder Salt Lake — a growing portrait series exploring the hidden stories and quiet importance of everyday people who shape this city.

Each portrait in Sonder is a conversation, not a pose. It’s about slowing down, noticing, and honoring the humanity in each face — from the barista who remembers your order to the construction worker building the skyline.

Through this project, I hope to spark curiosity — to remind us all that everyone has a story worth listening to, and that when we take the time to see each other, the city feels a little smaller and a lot more connected.
