The People Behind the Counter

Every morning, before most of Salt Lake has had its first cup of coffee, Jordyn is already at work.

She opens the doors, makes drinks, waits tables, and fills whatever role is needed that day. Like so many people who keep the city moving, her work often blends into the background of everyone else's routine. Most customers stop in for a few minutes, grab their coffee, and head off to work without giving much thought to the people behind the counter.

But for Jordyn, those small interactions are what she loves most.

Every day brings new faces, familiar regulars, and conversations with people she may never see again. Over the years, she's learned that you never really know what someone is carrying with them. The customer who walks in smiling one morning might return the next day weighed down by something invisible. That simple observation has shaped the way she moves through the world, meeting people where they are and offering kindness without knowing their full story.

Jordyn believes service workers are often overlooked, but she also sees something beautiful in the role they play. For a few moments each day, they become part of hundreds of people's lives. A warm greeting, remembering someone's usual order, or sharing a quick conversation can make a bigger impact than either person realizes.

Born and raised in Sugar House, Jordyn loves Salt Lake City for the same reason she loves her job: the people. She describes downtown as friendly, walkable, and full of hidden gems. She believes there's always something new to discover if you're willing to look a little closer.

Talking with Jordyn is a reminder that cities aren't built by buildings, roads, or skylines. They're built by people. By the baristas who learn your name, the servers who remember your favorite drink, and the countless workers whose contributions often go unnoticed.
